Splitter - Lost at Sea

Endlich möchte ich ein neues Album vorstellen. Lange hat es gedauert bis ein neues Exemplar bei mir Einzug gehalten hat. 
Splitter - Lost at Sea ist eines von drei Alben die Splitter produziert hat. Hinter dem Namen steckt eine Person die allgemein nur als B. bekannt ist. 
Alle drei Alben sind ausschließlich als digitales Medium bei Bandcamp zu erhalten. Hier kann man zwischen mp3, FLAC oder einem Format der eigenen Wahl wählen.
Das Album bringt uns mit 10 Titeln wahrhaftig weit hinaus auf das offene Meer. Die Musik ist recht minimalistisch gehalten, zeigt aber dennoch Ansätze von Trance, Ambient und Downbeat. Die Klänge sind sphärisch anmutend und sorgen für die absolute Entspannung. Besonders schöne Titel sind Nummer 2:Weit Weg, Nur Mit Dir und Nummer 3: It's Over, Now I'm Running (Sidechain On). Aber eigentlich ist jedes Stück ein Fest für die Ohren.
Durch Zufall bin ich bei Bandcamp auf Splitter gestoßen. Die blose Anfrage nach "minimal" hat mich zu der wunderschönen Musik gebracht. 
Die meisten Titel haben einen sanften aber teils kräftigen Bass. Kurze melodische Klangsequenzen lockern die Musik mit einer angenehme Art und Weise auf. Manche Titel sind sogar recht gut tanzbar habe ich feststellen müssen. Jedenfalls sind die Leute nicht abgeneigt. 
Das Albumcover lässt zunächst nicht darauf deuten, welche Musik sich dahinter versteckt. Im Nachhinein trifft das Bild im vollen Zuge die Musik und nimmt uns mit auf einen rasanten Flug über die weite See.
Besonders schön gelungen ist weiterhin Track 4, der mit Vocals von Elena ganz dezent unterlegt wurde und eine mystische gleichfalls sehnsüchtige Stimmung verbreitet. 
Erschienen ist das Album am 25 August 2011. Die anderen beiden Alben sollte man sich ebenfalls nicht engehen lassen, wobei diese stark von Lost at Sea abweichen und eheh ruhig gehalten wurden.
Wer allerdings ein Fan von Trentemoller, Dominik Eulberg oder Extrawelt ist sollte sich diese Musik auf jeden Fall nicht entgehen lassen.

Heute möchte ich mich wieder mit einer CD genauer beschäftigen. Es ist recht lange her, dass ich was geschrieben habe. Naja...es gab halt nichts neues zu erzählen. Vor Weihnachten allerdings gab es eine Neuerscheinung bei Ultimae-Records, die natürlich sort bei mir im Regal stand.
Solar fields - [Origin #01] heißt das neue Album.Auffällig ist, dass dieses Album nicht wie gewohnt die charakteristischen Merkmale der Ultimae-Serie besitz. Die Platte erscheint nicht als Digipak, sondern als Digifile und besitz auch nicht das typische Aussehen (keine schwarzen Balken oben und unten).
Das kommt daher, dass es sich nicht um ein neues Studioalbum, sondern eher um ein Zusatz-Album handelt. Die Titel sind neu...für uns...doch stammen sie lediglich aus Magnus´ Musiksammlung mit Stücken ,die bisher nicht veröffentlicht wurden. Einige Titel waren unvollständig und wurden daher in den letzten zehn Jahren zu ende komponiert.
Die Musik lässt nichts zu wünschen übrig. Sie ist genial. Neue, schöne Klänge führen uns fernab von all dem Trubel, der uns umgibt.
Besonders in der kalten Jahreszeit vor dem Kamin ist die Musik angenehm für die Seele.
Insgesamt werden vier Alben dieser Art erscheinen und die Musik von Solar Fields in ein vollkommen neues Licht setzten. Ob der Covercharakteristische Stil beibehalten wird belibt dabei fraglich.

[Origin # 01], is the first chapter in a series of four albums which aim to present Solar Fields' music under a new light. The artist dived into his studio archives and discovered unreleased little gems. A simple idea came along to share with fans and followers this incursion into the life of a contemporary composer.

The tracks on Origin # 01 were created over the course of the last ten years.

At times we'll be tempted to give a date to the music composition because there's a specific feel to it which reminds us of a moment or of an album; at others we're thrown in the pure flow of inspiration and that is timeless. 

Magnus Birgersson opens up the audio spectrum and spices up his music with guitars, bass, drums, balalaika, sitar; once again reminding us what a talented multi-instrumentalist he truly is.

Amethystium - Isabliss ist ein weiteres Album von Oystein, welches vor allem mit verspielten Melodien und vielen Vocals punktet. 

Schon beim ersten Lied bemerkt man die klanglich anspruchsvollen und abwechslungsreichen Rhythmen. Eine Vielzahl von interessanten Sounds treffen aufeinander. So vermischen sich hoch klingende Glocken mit Sequenzern und Synthesizer, die für spärische Verzerrungen sorgen. 

Besonders auffällig sind die vielen Lieder, welche von sanften Stimmen begleitet werden und so eine sinnliche Wirkung erziehlen. Eine Kombination, die nicht wirklich was mit Trance zu tun hat. Dennoch ist es rein elektronische Musik. Dadurch unterscheidet sich Isabliss auch stark von den Vorgängeralben, die ja nur instrumental gestalltet waren. 

Ich finde Isabliss eine schöne Abwechslung zu den anderen Werken. 2008 erschienen, ist es das bisher letzte Album von Oystein. Leider ist die Platte kaum noch zu bekommen, da diese nur in einer geringen Stückzahl gepresst wurde. 

Was mir bei Isabliss besonders auffällt, ist die Neigung der Musik in Richtung Gothic, da einige Titel doch ziemlich mystisch und träumerisch wirken.

Nicht gerade etwas für reine Trance-Fans ist Isabliss dennoch ein Muss für jeden Ambient, -und Elektrofanatiker.

Am Wochenende habe ich meine CD-Sammlung wieder um ein weiteres Exemplar erweitert. Nach Paul Kalkbrenner - Self  befindet sich nun auch endlich der Soundtrack zu seinem Film Berlin Calling in meinem Besitz.
Einige Titel sind uns schon aus dem Radio bekannt und jeder Club-Gänger wird die schon einmal gehört haben: Aaron und Sky and Sand.
Ich bin erst seit einigen Monaten Paul Kalkbrenner Fan, nach dem ich Self geschenkt bekommen habe. Bei einem Freund habe ich mir dann den Soundtrack von Berlin Calling angehört und war begeistert. Klasse Beat, interessante Rhythmen aber teilweise dennoch eintönig. Wie schon bei Self wurden auch hier sicherlich viele Loop´s eingebaut. Was solls. Die Musik ist gut und nur das ist entscheidend.
Die CD erscheint als Deluxe-Digipack. Im Innenteil finden wir eine art Collage mit verschiedenen Bildern und Scenen aus Pauls Leben. (Kann auch sein, dass das Scenen aus dem Film sind)
Auch diese CD gehört in den Elektroschrank!

Even though reality shows have been trying to prove otherwise, a successful career as a musician, even as a pop star, cannot be forced with a pre-packaged crash course. As of 2010, Paul Kalkbrenner has tallied up more than 15 years of experience as a producer and live act, all the while learning what it means to go purposefully from one step to the next. When the Berlin Wall fell, he was 12. The soundtrack of his youth, and of the majority of his generation, was still in its infancy, awaiting its breakthrough: techno music.

The fall of the wall meant reunification, but above all, a sense of no holds barred. The eastern part of the city became the anarchic, creative playground for a euphoric youth, now freed from bureaucracy. The early 90s were formative years for a young Paul Kalkbrenner as well. Eventually, in one of many long and sleepless nights on the dancefloors of E-Werk, Planet and Whale, the dream was born to make music himself, and anything less important would be put aside. A job as TV editor got him through the mid-90s and financed his first music gear. By this point Paul had already decided that he did not want to be a typical DJ playing other people’s records, but rather to play only his own music, live in a club setting. His first tracks were released in 1999 on Berlin-based BPitch Control (the newly founded label from Ellen Allien) as the Friedrichshain EP, titled after his home district in the city’s east. A series of further singles and two full-lengths (Superimpose and Time) followed, plus continuous live performances that threatened to shatter the grid of his calendar.

Together with Paul Kalkbrenner, BPitch Control gained a strong momentum. Interviews in respected German magazines like Spex and De:Bug paved the way for regular international bookings. The Lufthansa fetishist had now become a frequent flyer. Paul’s third album Self (2004) would mark the beginning of a new era. His melodic sound, with its affinity for grand emotional gestures, obeyed the logic of the dancefloor, but Self introduced a narrative aesthetic, serving as a soundtrack to a film that didn’t exist (at least, not yet…). It was Paul's most musical and mature album to date, although still taking cues from the dancefloor and rave culture, offering a first glimpse of what was yet to come. "Gebrünn Gebrünn”, released one year later, became a crossover hit found in every DJ’s record bag and finally cemented Paul’s status as a Techno MVP.

In early 2006, German director Hannes Stöhr, an avid fan of Self, decided to get in contact with Kalkbrenner. His idea was to produce a film about a musician in Techno City during the new millennium, and Paul would compose the soundtrack. The two met, traded ideas and experiences, and soon after began working on the screenplay’s first draft. In the course of their exchange, Hannes had the realization that Paul should not just contribute the music, but that he would be the perfect choice as the film’s star. Without hesitation, Paul accepted the offer. They decided to title the film Berlin Calling. For the soundtrack’s production, Paul and his friend (and BPitch colleague) Sascha Funke spent half a year in Cézanne’s hometown of Aix-En-Provence in southern France.

Unencumbered by the cold, gray Berlin winter, Paul devoted himself entirely to the musical aspect of the project. One song already had a title: “Sky and Sand” with vocals by Paul’s brother Fritz. Upon Paul’s return to Berlin in 2007, the filming began, and the finished work was brought to German theaters in October 2008. Berlin Calling and Paul’s debut acting performance received positive reviews, and the film, thanks to its authentic depiction of the Berlin club scene and drug culture, became, slowly but surely, a cult classic.

The soundtrack and especially the single "Sky and Sand" broke all sales records. That track in particular went gold in Belgium where it remained in the charts’ Top Ten for weeks. The 2009 DVD release of the film brought Paul to a new, much larger audience around the world. By the end of the year, Paul separated with BPitch Control after a decade-long relationship to take the next steps of his career alone. In early 2010 Paul completed a twelve-city live concert tour throughout Europe (with over 50,000 tickets sold within just a few weeks), followed by many headlining appearances at summer festivals. More tours and new challenges await him.

In den nächsten Post´s möchte ich mich mit einen sehr außergewöhnlichen Künstler beschäftigen.
Michael Cretu ist der Kopf, Gründer und Klangmeister von Enigma. 
Zunächst sollten wir die Musik charakterisieren, was mir nicht ganz leicht fällt. Es handelt sich um eine kreative Mischung aus elektronischen Elementen,  Pop, Rock, Ambient und Lounge, Ethnik, Folk, sowie Hip-Hop. Viele Titel sind von sanften oder kräftigeren Gesängen begleitet. Ein typisches Merkmal sind die mystischen Klangwelten und gregorianischen Gesänge, die man in vielen berühmten Tracks findet. Viele Stücke sind sehr innovativ und emotional gestaltet.
Die Musik such die Ferne, das Weite und ist immer darauf bedacht Sehnsüchte zu wecken. Dahin zu schweben durch Zeit und Raum. 
Seit seinem Alter von 18 Jahren verkaufte Michael Cretu 40 Millionen Alben. Mehr als 50 Titel waren auf Platz ein der Charts. Seine Musik ist auf über 1000 Compilations anzutreffen und für diese musikalische Meisterleistung gab es bereits 100 Platinum-Awards zu verleihen. 
Enigma ist eine völlig eigenständige Definition von Musik.  
Michael Cretu hat nicht nur Musik geschaffen, sondern ein ganzes Universum. 

Nun möchte ich mich zu einem seiner Alben wenden.
Es heist Enigma -  Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! und erschien im Jahre 1996. Auf meinen Enigma-Trip kam ich erst 2007.  
Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! war die erste Platte, die ich mir zugelegt habe. Doch schon bald folgen drei weitere, die ich anhängend auch vorstellen möchte. 
Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! ist eine der Platten, die mir mit am besten gefallen. Die Musik ist mystisch, heiter und trumpft mit wunderschönen Klängen. 
Titel eins und zwei begrüßen uns mit tiefen, kräftigen Bässen, gregorianischen Gesängen und einem sachten Beat.
Nummer drei weist die ebenfalls typischen Panflöten auf und ist durch gesprochene Verse sowie ruhige Gesänge gekennzeichnet. 
Titel vier ist recht flott und fällt schon in das Gebiet des Pop´s. Auch hier wieder Gesang. 
Track fünft hingegen verläuft wieder ruhig, besitzt eine klare, gelassene Melodie und auch hier wird die Musik von Vocals begleitet.
Nummer sechs ist mein persönlicher Favorit. Das Stück ist auch flott und wird durch eine wunderschöne Stimme begleitet.
Titel sieben verläuft geheimnisvoll und ist mit der Bezeichnung TNT for the Brain einer der berühmtesten Tracks.
Besonders auffällig ist auch Nummer 10. Die Musik ist sehr schnell und eignet sich gut zum Tanzen. 
Track zwölf schließt das Album ab, ähnlich wie es begonnen hat. Ein geheimnisvolles Ending verabschiedet uns von eine Reise durch Zeit und Raum.

Schiller - Atemlos

Two years after Sehnsucht (Desire), it’s finally here: in March 2010, Christopher von Deylen, alias Schiller, is releasing a new double album with thirty new tracks. Atemlos (Breathless) so subtly transgresses the boundaries of electronic pop that it becomes a unique musical experience.
The press hails Christopher von Deylen as a “master of global pop,” who, inspired by electronic classics such as Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, and Jean Michel Jarre, creates visionary sounds and condenses the atmosphere of our times into new electronic music. At home all over the world, he is always searching for the perfect sound and for ever new images to which he can give expression in his music. His sure sense for unusual sounds and voices has led to some surprising collaborations on this new double album.


The American singer Nadia Ali has contributed her incomparable voice to Schiller’s Atemlos and finds her way to a new form when working with Deylen. “I had heard Nadia seven years ago. To me, her voice has a unique appeal, so I was very pleased she agreed to perform with me.” Her ‘Try’ is definitely one of my favorite numbers on the album.”
His collaboration with the French-Indonesian singer Anggun is also very unusual. “Normally, I withdraw into my studio and work on a composition until I can release it. With Anggun, it was totally different. She visited me in Berlin, and we sat down at my piano together, and the music just came out. We recorded the vocal tracks in Paris later.”
But Schiller would not be Schiller if he didn’t constantly surprise us with pure instrumentals. This time Deylen invited Krautrock legend Jaki Liebezeit (from Can, among other bands) to a session in Berlin. “I’ve worked with a lot of drummers, but Jaki has a unique style of drumming. Very reduced, very uniform, but that’s exactly what makes his percussion so emotional, almost turning rhythm into melody.”


Whereas for his previous album, Sehnsucht, the musician traveled in a Volvo Amazon the 20,000 kilometers from Berlin to Calcutta, this time he found inspiration in eternal ice. On the research vessel Polarstern, he accompanied an international team of marine scientists on their expedition to the Arctic, trading his keyboard for a joystick and getting to the bottom of the sea.
This search quickly became a personal search, in which von Deylen discovered new sounds. “I’m not sure which was more impressive: traveling through ice or seeing the bottom of the sea at a depth of 2,500 meters.” The musician was not just onboard as an observer but had been trained to operate the Quest diving robot by MARUM in Bremen. “It is a wonderful, fascinating world below water through which you fly with the Quest. Having seen that, you look at the earth with different eyes.”


Thus Atemlos offers stirring sound paintings of unexpected power, sustained by a delicacy that touches one deep inside. Sounds that no longer simply seek out stillness. Grand cinema. Enchanting visual worlds. Classical Schiller sounds with pop songs thrown into the bargain. As well as Kim Sanders and her mystically intoned “Under My Skin” and New Wave pioneer Midge Ure (from Ultravox, among other bands), who invited Deylen to his studio in Bath in southern England.
Following his hit albums Zeitgeist, Weltreise (Trip around the World), Leben (Life), Tag und Nacht (Day and Night), and Sehnsucht, two of which went platinum and five gold, also winning an Echo Award, the DVD Champions Award, and the Opus Award for best sound design, Atemlos is Christopher von Deylen’s sixth Schiller album. It is also being released in a Super Deluxe Edition with two CDs and a bonus DVD that includes, among other things, a twenty-minute-long “electronic symphony.”

Nun ist es entlich so weit. Das neue Album von Schiller befindet sich in meinem Besitz und ich muss ehrlich zugeben, dass ich mich ärgere nicht die Ultra-Deluxe-Version gekauft zu haben. Die Musik ist fantastisch.
Atemlos ist das neue Album nach Sehnsucht und wie schon der Vorgänger ein absoluter Erfolg.
Auf dem neuen Album finden wir wieder eine Menge bekannter Gäste als auch neue herausragende Stimmen. Ein absoluter Renner ist der Titel Try, der mit der tollen Stimme Nadia Ali´s begleitet wird.
Für die musikalische Entwicklung machte  Christopher von Deylen eine Reise in die Antarktis. Er befamd sich vier Wochen lang auf dem Forschungsschiff Polarstern und ließ sich von der fantastischen Eiswelt inspirieren.
Im Frühjahr 2011 findet Schillers nächste Live-Tour statt. Dann presentiert er seine genialen, instrumentalen Klangwelten. Nicht verpassen.

Und während Berlin-Mitte in der Zwischenzeit für zugereiste Schwaben, Szene-Lackel und sonstige Hipster das Maß aller Dinge darstellt, liegt in Friedrichshain, im Osten der Stadt, die Homebase von Paul Kalkbrenner. Noch zu DDR-Zeiten schicken ihn seine Eltern auf eine staatliche Musikschule, damit Paul die hohe Kunst des Trompetespielens lernen möge. Nach der Wende, zu Beginn der neunziger Jahre, steht er gemeinsam mit seinem Kumpel und WG-Genossen Sascha Funke hinter den Plattentellern eines Jugendclubs im Bezirk Lichtenberg.

Die Volljährigkeit endlich erreicht, besucht Paul zum ersten Mal das E-Werk. Hier haut er sich mehr als einmal mit Techno die Nächte um die Ohren. Dieser Sound hat es ihm angetan. Kalkbrenner besorgt sich einen Amiga Rechner und übt sich in der Produktion eigener Stücke. Und wie so bei manch anderen Produzenten im Technozirkel stellen Basic Channel für Kalkbrenner einen nicht unerheblichen Quell der Inspiration dar.

Der endgültige Schritt in die Adoleszenz bereitet ihm da schon mehr Probleme. Mit der Schule kommt Paul nicht klar, er geht ohne Abschluss ab und mit dem Dienst fürs Vaterland kann Kalkbrenner sich auch nicht wirklich anfreunden. Ein Praktikum bei einem Fernsehsender öffnet ihm 1997 neue Möglichkeiten sein Leben zu gestalten. In der Folge erledigt er Editor-Aufträge für diverse deutsche Kanäle. Zwei Jahre später erscheint die erste Kalkbrenner-Platte.

Paul setzt Prioritäten, lässt die Fernseharbeit ruhen und kümmert sich fortan nur noch um seine Musik. Für Ellen Alliens BPitch Control produziert Kalkbrenner die beiden Alben "Superimpose" und "Zeit". Durch deren gefühlvoll-melancholischen Sound bekommt er den "Neo-Trance"-Stempel verpasst, was ihm eigentlich gar nicht genehm ist.

Mit seinem dritten Werk Self rückt Kalkbrenner in dieser Hinsicht die Verhältnisse wieder zurecht und legt ein außerordentliches Zeugnis emotionaler Musik ab. In eine vergleichbare Kerbe haut das Remix-Album "ReWorks", bei dem Paul Kalkbrenner eine Reihe befreundeter Künstler und Musiker bittet, sich einen Track aus seinem Œuvre herauszusuchen und zu remixen.

2008 kommt es zum Spielfilm-Debüt Kalkbrenners. Nach langer Beratungstätigkeit für Hannes Stöhrs Techno-Projekt "Berlin Calling" überredet der Regisseur seinen Szenekenner, den Hauptdarsteller-Part einfach selbst zu übernehmen. Gesagt, getan: Kalkbrenner morpht zu DJ Ickarus, der mit seiner Freundin und Managerin der ersten Albumveröffentlichung entgegen fiebert, dann aber über den Umweg Drogenkonsum in eine Nervenklinik eingeliefert wird. Der Film feiert auf dem Filmfestival in Locarno Weltpremiere.

We cross the sounds of techno. However, we retain some elements of trance. In this post I want to deal with a German DJ. His name is Paul Kalkbrenner. His biography you can read above. Unfortunately I only own one album by Paul Kalkbrenner. It was published in 2004 and bears the simple name "Self";. Main feature of his music are minimalist elements, techno and trance. The combination of the three components leads to an exciting mix of music.

In this album Paul Kalkbrenner brings  more sentimental sounds in our ears. A great feature is the small tracks that were played with an accordion. This CD is divided into three sections. Title 1, 6 and 11 will be played on the accordion. From the plate one should not expect that it will make for a lively atmosphere at parties. The titles are more inspiring and invigorating. The sounds of rain to relax and dream on. The music provides a new impetus in the music industry. A few shortcomings but has also this music. Some titles make the appearance that they run entirely in loops and thereby lose their professionalism. Some titles have a too low voltage, are monotonous and strict after repeated listening to. But thats taste. 

I like the album anyway because it´s not as intrusive and ensure peace.

Durchkreuzen wir die Klangwelten des Techno. Allerdings behalten wir einige Elemente von Trance bei. In diesem Post möchte ich mich mit einem deutschen DJ beschäftigen. Sein Name ist Paul Kalkbrenner. Seine Biographie könnt ihr unten lesen. Leider besitze ich nur ein Album Von Paul Kalkbrenner. Es ist im Jahre 2004 erschienen und trägt die schlichte Bezeichnung "Self". Hauptmerkmal seiner Musik sind minimalistische Elemente so wie Techno und Trance. Die Kombination der drei Komponenten führt zu einer spannenden Musikmischung.
Mit dem Album Self bringt Paul Kalkbrenner eher sentimentale Klänge in unsere Ohren. Eine große Besonderheit sind die kleinen Titel die nur mit einem Schifferklavier gespielt wurden. Dadurch wird die CD in drei Abschnitte unterteilt. Titel 1, 6 und 11 werden mit dem Schifferklavier gespielt. Von der Platte sollte man nicht erwarten, dass sie auf Partys für eine ausgelassene Stimmung sorgt. Die Titel sind eher inspirierend als aufpuschend. Die Klänge regen zum Entspannen und Träumen an. Die Musik sorgt für neue Impulse in der Musikindustrie.
Ein paar Mängel weist aber auch diese Musik auf. Einige Titel machen den Anschein, dass sie komplett in Loops laufen und dadurch an Professionalität verlieren. Manche Titel weisen eine zu geringe Spannung auf, sind eintönig und strengen nach mehrmaligen Hören ein wenig an. Aber das ist Geschmack. Mir gefällt das Album dennoch, da es nicht so aufdringnlich ist und für Ruhe sorgt.
Ich hoffe meine Beschreibung hat zur Entscheidung beigetragen. Viel Spass beim Hören.
