RND - Ask the Dust

RND aka RaNDom is an electro-dub project started by Matt B in winter 2003 in Tokyo.Shortly after in spring 2004 the critically acclaimed demo 'Cuts One' was released : a mix of electronica and dub cuts. Following the overwhelmingly positive response to their independently released e.p 'Point Two' in winter 2004,RND have since taken a subtle shift in direction by including in their line up tabla player Shinsuke Inoue(a long term student of the revered Kul Bhushan Bhargava). Adding this new percussive drive and flexibility to their other live instrumentation and digital manipulation has continued to make RND's live appearances(from London's Alexandra Palace to Tokyo's Womb)such a success.It has also ensured their tracks are regularly played by chill out luminaries such as Nova(Ultimae Records)and Gaudi (Interchill Records). Roger Linley ,aka the Viscount, joined the crew during the 2005 european gigs and soon became a very important contribution of what is today's RND sound.

The album, "Ask The Dust", takes its title from a John Fante novel of the same name. It is an extraordinary mix of Dub,Breaks and Electro glitch, featuring BrotherCulture on vocals and Shinsuke Inoue on tablas.
RND avoids genres in favor of an eclectic brew of flavors, but remains firmly rooted in old-school dub foundations.
From the catchy "Tell em," to the powerful bass driven "Negotiations"; from the strong melodica lines in "Jahrdens," to the minimal stepper "Illuminations," and onwards to the NU-Ska-Breaks of "Simulationsim," Ask The Dust's 11 tracks create a ambitiously wide-ranging sonic experience.

Nun dieses neue Album passt nicht wirklich auf diesen Blog. Da es sich aber auf meinem Blog nicht nur um Musik aus dem Bereich Ambient-Trance handelt, sondern auch um die CD´s, die mir  sonst noch so gefallen, gehört dieses Album selbstverständlich mit dazu.
Nun denn: RND - Ask the Dust ist ein ziehmlich tolles Album. Es handelt sich um Dub bzw. Elektro-Dub. Charakteristisch dafür ist Titel vier, der für eine ausgezeichnete Partystimmung sorgt. Auch die anderen Stücke sind hervorragend zum Tanzen geeignet. 
Die CD wird in einem schlichten Digipack geliefert. Das Cover hingegen ist recht einfach aber stilvoll gestalltet. Allerdings kann ich nicht feststellen, was abgebildet werden soll. 
11 Tracks bringen uns in eine tanzende Lage und sollten auf jeden Fall auf keiner Party fehlen.
Wer Raggea und Dub mag, dem kann ich dieses Album nur empfehlen.
